As described in their Executive Summary, they were developed to bring more certainty and predictability to the determination of spousal support under the federal Divorce Act. The Guidelines have not been formally enacted by any level of government. They are, however, a very valuable tool for assessing a reasonable range of spousal support and should not be departed from lightly.”
